Anti-Dengue safety measures
Diliman Prep calls on all students and parents to take basic precautionary measures to prevent any cases of dengue within the school and in their homes, by noting warning signs and taking appropriate action. The basic signs and symptoms of dengue fever include prolonged high fever, abdominal pain, headache, body pains, rashes or any form of bleeding. Parents who observe these symptoms in their child are advised to bring the child to the hospital for early diagnosis and management.
Guidelines for dengue prevention are posted on the bulletin boards all over the school campuses in Commonwealth Avenue and in Novaliches.
Meanwhile, the high school physician, Dr. Rose Rex-Rebonquin, M.D., recently announced that the school is currently free of the dengue virus, but continues to take precautionary action to determine and prevent potential breeding sites of mosquitoes.
Teams regularly inspect school grounds to search, pinpoint and destroy potential mosquito breeding areas. Environment-friendly pesticides and larvicides is sprayed in breeding-prone areas. Ovitrap, a chemical used to determine the prevalence of dengue-carrying mosquitoes is also used regularly.
Any known cases of dengue within the campus will also immediately be reported to the local health center (Balara) and Quezon City Health Department.
Class advisers are asked to inform the clinic of any known case of dengue among his/her students. Parents of the students are required to submit to the clinic a copy of the child’s medical certificate upon the child’s return to class. Every student who developed dengue will be interviewed and examined by the clinic administrator for case documentation and counseling on how to prevent another episode of Dengue.
